International Nurses Day - 12 May

International Nurses Week is celebrated from May 6-12 each year. Wednesday 12 May however, is very special as it's International Nurses Day.

On this day we celebrate nurses and the amazing contribution they make to health in their respective countries. We also celebrate the sharing of knowledge from each generation of nurses to newer generations all over the world.
Wednesday 12 May is also the birthday of Florence Nightingale, making this date appropriate for all nurses to celebrate the vast improvements and efforts in nursing, past and present.

Australian Volunteers International invites all nurses and health professionals to join us in celebrating International Nurses Day. Be inspired by talks from international health workers and network with like-minded people.
The theme of the evening will be ‘Working in International Development’
• Learn more about living, working and volunteering overseas
• Hear from speakers who’ll share their diverse personal nursing experiences
• We’ll provide a facilitated networking activity so you can meet other nurses with experience working overseas

• Nurses wanting to celebrate International Nurses Day with other like-minded people
• Nurses or health professionals interested in volunteering overseas
• Nurses or health professionals who’ve worked or volunteered overseas
• Staff of organisations who support nurses in this field
Guest speaker:
Clare Murphy currently manages a HIV and Aids program in Burma and the Pacific for the Burnet Institute. Claire has worked extensively in health programs across Asia and Africa and is the Chair of the ACFID Burma working group. Clare will share her journey and explore the opportunities of working as a nurse in international development.
