Foreign Minister Rudd speaks at MDG Review Summit
24 September 2010
On 22 September, Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd spoke at the UN
Millennium Development Goals Review Summit in New York, echoing the
sentiments of over 70 of Australia's leading aid agencies, who are
warning that the world is in danger of failing to meet its
commitments by 2015.
The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are a set of measurable
targets to reduce extreme poverty, hunger and disease; and to
promote gender equality, education and environmental
sustainability.
The Review Summit's objective was to accelerate progress towards
all the MDGs by 2015 - progress that Minister Rudd's speech
acknowledged is "not yet on track to register even the barest of
pass marks".
