AVI hosts first Women In Development function for 2011
07 March 2011
Wednesday 2 February saw AVI host the first Women in Development
network function for 2011, following on from its successful events
in 2010.

Nations Volunteers speaking at AVI's Fitzroy office in
February.
Over 70 women from a diverse range of backgrounds gathered for a
dinner held at AVI's Fitzroy office, keen to share their
experiences and hear from other women in their respective fields of
interest.
AVI was very excited to welcome Ms Flavia Pansieri, Executive
Coordinator of United Nations Volunteers, as guest speaker for the
evening. Flavia took this opportunity to share with great insight,
wisdom and humour her experiences as a senior woman leader in a
wide range of roles with United Nations agencies in Asia, Europe,
the United States and Middle East.
This includes her appointment as Deputy Executive Director of
the United Nations Fund for Women (UNIFEM) in New York, where she
was engaged in promoting women's economic, social and political
participation and in raising awareness about gender equality
issues.
AVI CEO, Dimity Fifer, brought the evening to a close by thanking
Flavia for her generous and engaging presentation, and acknowledged
the interest and enthusiasm of all present in contributing to the
success of the night.
Events for the Women in Development network in Melbourne are held
quarterly. The forum provides a wonderful opportunity for women in
the development sector and related fields such as health,
sustainability and education to hear from women leaders and explore
issues of career development and advancement, and to engage and
network with other women.
These events are open to all, so please join our invite list by
