A conversation with Valerie Browning

For the past 20 years, Australian Valerie Browning has worked with Ethiopia's Afar people through the Afar Pastoralist Development Association (APDA).
In an interview on ABC 774's Conversation Hour with Sammy J, she talks about the challenges and issues facing this nomadic pastoralist community, the absolute privilege to live and work in this remote region of Ethiopia and the Australia Africa Community Engagement Scheme (AACES).

About AACES
Addressing issues of accessibility to health facilities and training staff to assist with childbirth, are critical issues facing the Afar, a nomadic pastoralist community in Ethiopia and have brought together the Afar Pastoralist Development Association, Anglicord, the Nossal Institute and AVI in a partnership through AACES.
Over the next five years this partnership with work with the Afar community through research, service delivery and technical assistance to reduce child mortality and improve maternal health outcomes. Key focus areas will be supporting APDA to increase community access to health services, improving conditions of daily living and supporting policy dialogue between stakeholders to achieve sustainable and positive outcomes.
