Our Approach
International volunteering is one of the most effective forms of
development assistance available. It empowers people to develop
their own communities, access resources and achieve their full
potential. All AVI assignments are shaped by the following
principles:
Shared goals
Australian Volunteers International connects people and
organisations internationally to learn from each other and achieve
shared goals.
People-centred development
Our work in people-centred development, particularly through
volunteering, is central to this. We work with individuals,
organisations and communities in response to locally identified
priorities.
Working in partnership
Our commitment to building partnerships and trust between
individuals and communities across national boundaries is a way of
establishing a global culture of mutuality and solidarity crucial
to addressing issues of poverty alleviation.
