Adviser - English as a Language of Instruction - Primary Schools
United Nations Refugee and Works Agency (UNRWA) provides basic services in the areas of health, education, relief and social services to Palestinian refugees in Lebanon and the Middle East region. Among other services, the UNWRA Field Office in Lebanon provides all formal schooling to refugees, as they are not able to access the government education services.
UNRWA Lebanon Field Education Department is seeking an Australian Volunteer to work with them to continue and expand the capacity-building of the primary schools in using English as the language of instruction for subjects other than English. The volunteer will continue the work of previous Australian Volunteers, and work alongside local and British Council colleagues.
To contribute to the project, the volunteer will need to contribute expertise and knowledge in the following areas:
Extensive experience in English as a Second Language in schools (primary level preferred) - teaching, curriculum development and learning materials development
Applied expertise in teacher training, including evaluation of teacher training programs
Able to anticipate the challenges you would face living and working as a Volunteer with UNWRA in Beirut.
In addition to professional expertise, succeessful volunteers demonstrate their skills in training & developing others, awareness and sensitivity to cross-cultural communication, patience, tolerance and flexibilty.
Beirut is a welcoming, vibrant and cosmopolitan city, but there are complex security and political issues that require constant mindfulness. Volunteers are provided with security training & guidelines that support them to live and work safely.
