The University of Papua New Guinea is the pre-eminent tertiary education institution in the country. It runs world class teaching and research programs across its five Schools (Humanities and Social Sciences, Law, Business Administration, Medicine and Health Sciences, Natural and Physical Sciences) as well as a first-class program of distance education so vital for a country as vast and demographically challenging as PNG.
At the heart of any leading teaching and research institution is its library and the UPNG Library is looking to appoint two Australian Volunteers to the positions of Information Technology Librarian - Manager; and Information Technology Librarian - Trainer.
This position (Manager) is specifically seeking someone to:
* Manage the Library's computer system;
* Provide leadership and supervision to the Assistant Systems Librarians;
* Coordinate with the IT Division in respect of maintenance and upgrades;
* Together with the Chief Cataloguer, ensure the library catalogue is accessible and up to date;
* Provide reference desk service, bibliographic instruction etc;
In order to win this highly sought after role you will need:
* Relevant Library Science/Computer Science qualifications;
* Good knowledge of general library operations;
* Experience in, or capacity to manage a library computer system;
* Good communication skills;
* Strong training skills;
* Experienced in customer relations;
* Online or digital library experience.
This is a two year posting commencing in August 2012.
