Position Description Community projects and fundraising officer

Polokwane Victims Support Centre's main focus of work is empowering the community in respect of safety and security matters such as crime awareness, crime prevention, human rights, police procedures and victim aid is specifically assigned to the department of safety and security. Similarly, the victim empowerment and support programme of the NCPS states that the role and rights of victims are vital in addressing the effects of crime, and creating crime-resistant communities.

This programme is aimed at making the criminal justice process, and therefore also the police, more victim-friendly, accessible, sensitive and service-oriented, and developing programs to help minimise the negative effects of crime on its victims. Empowerment implies a greater role for victims in the criminal justice process, and their becoming resistant to repeat victimisation.

The centre is now seeking a dedicated Community projects & fundraising officer to assist in setting up the victim support centre administrative systems and training of volunteers. The successful candidate will also assist with the setting up of community development projects in order to expand the work of the victim support centre.

To be considered for this position, you will require:

• Relevant tertiary qualifications such as social work or community development or equivalent experience.
• Successful results in fundraising  and proposal writing
• Successful results or applied knowledge in establishing income generating projects
• Demonstrated success in building the skills of others through formal and/or informal training and coaching
• Demonstrated success in consulting with stakeholders and facilitating the work of others to achieve an agreed outcome, preferably within a community development environment
• Applied project management skills, within the community development environment

Personal attributes must include the ability to cope with cultural isolation, a willingness to learn the local language and a good understanding and appreciation of the African lifestyle.
