Social Work Adviser |
NCA is a development organisation working for global justice. NCA’s mission statement states that the organisation shall:
• Protect the dignity of the destitute, poor and oppressed, and join hands with them in their struggle for basic rights
• Challenge the powerful and those with authority to uphold the rights of the destitute, poor and oppressed and to respect their human dignity
• Demonstrate compassion by participating in and building inclusive communities
• Combat selfishness and greed, indifference and apathy among those who live in wealth and over consumption
• Promote sustainable management of natural resources and protection of the global environment
Vietnam has just recently started to identify the need to develop and train social workers. This is a new field of work in the country and there is a great interest to get ideas and experience from outside in order to develop social work and also certified social workers in the future.
Many faith-based organisations have already established networks of volunteers and caregivers, especially related to HIV. NAV’s plan is to support a pilot training program on social work in partnership with one of the FBO partners (Buddhist University) and also establish a national network of social workers (caregivers). In order to do so NAV needs the support of a professional social worker as advisor.
To be considered for this position, you will require:
- Bachelors Degree in Social Sciences/Social Work or extensive practical experience coupled with relevant qualifications in a similar field
- Practical experience of social work (people centred and empowerment approaches) in relation to stigma, discrimination and mobilizing voluntary workers, networks of PLHIV.
- Proven track record in conceptualising and developing training plans in the social work sector
Personal attributes must include the ability to cope with cultural isolation, a willingness to learn the local language and a good understanding and appreciation of the Vietnamese lifestyle.
